I got all of the audio systems hooked up around the house! 5.1 surround in livingroom #2, and approximate 4.1 on my computer. (Very important for gaming and listening to music while working on the computer or other main areas of the house) I say approximate 4.1 because the subwoofers (that's right there are actually 3) are not on their own channel. Still it works pretty well for me.
The way that my computer audio system is set up right now is quite interesting. For the rear channels I have a set of altec lansing series100 desktop computer speakers that have their own sub. No slouches for your standard cheapo computer speakers.
The front speakers are where it gets really interesting. I used to have one of the original JVC kaboom's (it was an awesome system that lasted me years in it's original form) but eventually I decided it was getting a little big and unweildy to lug around and wasn't really fitting in anywhere that well, so i decided to butcher it! What I found when I took it apart I never expected. A fully modular system that was so friendly to take down into smaller components. The CD player, tape player and radio modules came right off of the main amp module with absolutely no trouble. Like unplugging a cable from a wall socket! (only smaller) not wanting or needing those I threw them out and put the remaining module into a cardboard box (I'll upgrade that to something a little nicer some day) The speakers all unplugged without issue and I've mounted the subwoofers to the underside of my desk and since decided that the high ends are a little tinny for me. while I was driving for SPUD.ca I found a great 5.1 speaker set with some nice 2.5"x2.5"x2.5" satelites and a rather useless unpowered subwoofer, I tossed the sub and am using 2 of the satelites now for the front speakers which are a little more mid range which fits perfectly with everything else.
The subwoofers mounted to the desk were such a grand idea. Just amazing for fragging or racing some nice rumbly rally cars :)
ooh let me know what kind of awesome sound setups you have at home and/or what your ideal setup would be. Comments people! This is a 2 way street!
